The City of Okigwe in Imo State is set to go agog for an all important Match Day 29 Game between Abia Warriors FC and Plateau United FC. The two sides have had contrasting fortunes in recent weeks with the Imama Amapakabo led side gradually coming out from the relegation waters with recent victories against Remo Stars FC and MFM FC. Plateau united FC on the other hand, though haven’t changed places with run away leaders, Rivers United have kept the fight going still keeping a 4 points gap between them and Rivers United FC.

Plateau United have ammased 54 points from 28 games, while Abia Warriors have gotten 33 points from 27 games played.

In the earlier fixture between this two sides played at the New Jos Stadium, Plateau United ensured no point was dropped behind their home fans picking all 3 points winning 1-0 via an Albert Hilary’s strike. They two sides would ensure almost match up each other strength with the visitors looking to close the gap with the log leaders and the home team looking to move far away from trouble waters.

Imama Amapakabo vs Fidelis Illechukwu (Technical Matchup).

The two coaches worked together at the national team set-up working with the Nigerian U-23 side although the pair couldn’t bring the required victory, Nigerians expected them to tinker a team that was a force. In their club careers Imama won the title with Rangers in the same season that Fidelis Illechukwu had a season, where he kept MFM FC afloat and resigned afterwards after taking them to the continental stage in the previous season. They have had contrasting fortunes with Imama Amapakabo struggling with Abia Warriors and Fidelis Illechukwu doing the unexpected and gunning for his first title in the NPFL.

Pius Samson vs Andrew Ikefe (Defense Matchup)

With the Plateau United team missing talisman Ibrahim Buhari, they would rely on an Andrew Ikefe that have proved reliable to the team with timely tackles and key forward passes. Pius Samson have been an ever present force in the Abia Warriors Defense with some outstanding performances, but would ensure they have his hands are full against power playing forward Akila Jesse.

Sunday Anthony vs Kalu Nweke (Midfield battle).

This would definitely be between Sunday Anthony and Kalu Nweke if the two players gets the nod. The pair are two players that can on their best days determine the outcome of games with strong play, dogged runs and incisive passes. Remains to be seen who comes out tops.

Akila Jesse vs Godwin Obaje (Forwards Matchup)

Jesse Akila and Godwin Obaje look set to lead both attacks in tomorrow’s encounter. Akila Jesse won the League Bloggers player of the month of March where he put up sterling performances spiced with goals. Having garnered 7 goals in the league so far with a brace in his last game, he seems eager to put in another strong performance against Abia Warriors. Godwin Obaje is putting in the numbers this season also with strong power play in attack and have been able to put in a goal each in their last two league games. He has scored 8 already and is looking to add more. Similar patterns but it remains to be seen if the result would be same.

It sure would be an interesting encounter between this two sides at the Okigwe Township Stadium.
