USMNT star Christian Pulisic is set to stay at Chelsea after being denied the chance to leave the team on loan this summer, according to The Athletic.

Pulisic was reportedly willing to extent his contract which only has two years left, in order to help facilitate a move.

The report also states Pulisic is disappointed after fellow winger Callum Hudson-Odi was allowed to leave on loan to Bayer Leverkusen.

Manchester United and Newcastle were interested in loan moves that would have kept the American in the premier league, as well as several Champions League clubs in Italy and Spain.

Like most players with eyes on the World Cup, Pulisic wants consistent minutes in order to prepare for the tournament, and at the current moment it does not seem like he will receive those under manger Thomas Tuchel.

America’s most talented winger has played only 76 minutes across the first four games of the season, and all have come off the bench.

Pulisic played a number of roles last season, including as a false 9, and wingback while starting just 13 of 22 games in which he appeared. He also dealt with Covid-19 and an ankle injury that cost him chunks of the season.

Pulisic has 25 goals and 13 assists in 6,995 minutes across all competitions for Chelsea since joining the team, including 19 goals and eight assists in Premier League play.

This season’s limited action has also seen Pulisic play multiple roles appearing as both a center midfielder, as well as a winger.

One cause for the Pulisic being deployed all over the field at Chelsea most likely stands from the clubs questionable depth at several positions.

The Blues also already have seen attackers Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, along with the previously mentioned Hudson-Odi depart the club this window, and it is likely contributed to the decision to not allow Pulisic to leave.

Hakeem Zyiech is also in talks to depart the club and move back to Ajax in the coming days.

Chelsea have still been linked with numerous different attackers that the team could look to sign before the conclusion of the transfer window, which in all likelihood would make playing time even more difficult for the American to find.

Chelsea have been in talks with Everton over signing winger Anthony Gordon, but that is looking less likely by the day due to Everton wanting well over £60 million for a player who is largely still unproven in the premier league.

Recent discussions have also linked Chelsea to Crystal Palace attacker Wilfred Zaha, in the Blues latest transfer rumor.

In terms of players abroad the most talked about name has been Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, while the possibility of paying Rafael Leao’s massive release clause is not out of the realm of possibility.

One way or another it seems Pulisic will have a hard time breaking into the starting three of Chelsea’s attack which currently features Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz.
