DELTA 2022: NAOMI MONDAY DENIED A DESERVED GOLD MEDAL AFTER RESULTS WERE UPTURNED IN CHESS

Plateau contingent at the National Sports Festival in Asaba, were shocked when news filtered in that results involving Naomi Monday, in Chess, has been tampered with.

The news became reality when she was invited for medal presentation and was donned with the silver medal, when clearly results shows that she deserved the Gold.

No explanation was given for this injustice and Plateau was left to rue her misfortune.

As the unfortunate event was unfolding in Chess, other athletes were busy winning more medals for the state.

Six medals came in, 4 from kunfu and 2 from weightlifting, on thursday.

Samuel Emmanuel, who qualified for the finals in the kunfu -85kg class, withdrew from the fight due to injury he sustained in the semi finals. He relinquished the gold and automatically settled for silver medal.

The other results in kunfu showed Abdullrasheed Abdullazeez won silver in +90kg class while Nkuma Obasi and Anthony Ejembi both carted bronze in the -75kg and-85kg classes respectively.

In Weightlifting, Daniel Christopher completed the day’s activity with 2bronze in the 96kg snatch event, paving way for the final Weightlifting events on Friday.

Karate fired blank as Badminton and Athletics seek to consolidate on the 2gold, 10silver and 21bronze medals Plateau has won so far.

In another development, Plateau state contingent at the Festival, were treated to a celebration dinner party courtsy of SP Ambassador Usman Ahmed Abdul Dimka, a Plateau son from Kanke, who was posted to Delta state on National duty.

The Ambassador said the gesture was to identify with his people away from home. He said he was happy when he heard Plateau was in Delta for the Festival and felt the need to meet and dine with them.

Events of the 21st National Sports Festival will climax on friday, leaving just finals of Athletics events in the100m, 200m, 400m, 4×4 and 4×1 relays for the closing ceremony on Saturday.
