Exclusive:An Exclusive Chat with Plateau Utd defender and new Super Eagles invitee, Ibrahim Buhari

Plateau United high scoring defender, who has four goals to his name so far this 2021/22 NPFL season and all being crucial last minute goals that has given Plateau Utd the maximum points spoke to the duo of ssimedia.com.ng Nathaniel Mobolade & Jeremiah Ola in Jos on his performance since joining Plateau Utd, his life and the recent invitation to the Super Eagles camp for the double header friendly matches later this month.
Follow us into Ibrahim Buhari’s life.

When asked about his background, he said
“I started my football career as a boy on the streets of Zaria in Kaduna State. My first grassroots club was FC Olympia then Standard FC of Zaria, I was loaned to Rarara FC of Katsina where I played for 2 seasons before we gained promotion to the Pro League where my path and that of Coach Abdul Maikaba crossed after scoring 4 goals for Rarara as a defender.

Coach Maikaba signed me to play for Plateau Utd during the 2019/2020 season and since then it’s been a meteoric rise.

“As an upcoming player, I respect my seniors in the team who took me as their younger brother by putting me through all I need to know and how I need to do them.

The players of Plateau Utd have all being great in their support for me.I also give maximum respect to my family members especially my mother who prays for my success day and night, sometimes she wakes me up to pray during the night..she has been my pillar of support.
I will urge my fellow players to be focus and give respect to their parents and mentors as
it’s the sure way to success.

Prayers is my secret weapon all my life and I still pray to go higher in my chosen career as i just began. “

ON INVITATION TO THE SUPER EAGLES, he said; “The invitation came to me as a surprise because I was not expecting it though the thought of the CHAN Eagles crosses my mind often but now getting invitation to the Super Eagles is great. Its the desire of every player to dorn the jersey of the Super Eagles, so it’s a dream come true.

I hope to learn a lot from the older players. The invitation came basically by my performance which I believe the National team handlers have noticed coupled with the fact that the NPFL is a delight to watch as an away team can pick points from any ground. So this has given players confident to be relaxed and play their game. I hope to justify my invitation with great performance even better than before I was called.

I have to be grateful to the coaching staff, management, players and Fans of Plateau Utd for their support, it’s been tremendous being at the club. Plateau United gave me the platform on which i was invited. The club is part of my success story.

If I find myself in an European club, it will be appreciated as it’s the dream of every player to ply his trade outside the shores of Nigeria. However, there’s nothing God cannot do as we do our best to be counted among the best”

ON GETTING WINNING GOALS FOR PLATEAU UTD THIS SEASON, he said ; “Wao…hmmm, those goals came at crucial times when every of our players have surged forward in search of goals and I was always at the right place. The goal against Rangers in Nnewi against our former coach was great, then against Katsina Utd here in Jos was massive.

I thank the fans for always urging us on even when the goals are not coming that’s the reason I always determine to put smiles on their faces.

The standard of the NPFL has improved, so also the quality of play by players which has given 8 home professionals the opportunity to showcase their talents in the Super Eagles.
I pray the standard will continue to rise.”

Yes,it’s possible they drop points in two matches and we get our points to close in on them.Like yesterday they lost to Heartland of Owerri and if we beat Wikki Tourist later today, the points would have reduced to 4 which we can continue pushing till the end to get our hands on the NPFL trophy like 2017 God willing.”

My greatest joy always is seeing our fans at the stadium cheering us on.They have been wonderful and I urge them to keep being the best supporters that they are with the able Chairman Umar Shehu (Mallam Audu). On their concern that my absence will cost the team points,I don’t believe so as their are capable defenders in the team who have always stood-in in my absence. The fans have nothing to fear.

“My sincere gratitude to my elder brother who doubles as my manager, he has been of tremendous help for my till now. Also my grassroots coaches back in Zaria, Abdul Maikaba, Coaches Fidelis Ilechukwu and the technical crew, the Plateau United players are just too wonderful and the fans.Ultimately, to my mother who has been my prayer support and pillar without who I can not be here. I thank almighty Allah for all he has been doing for me”
