Gabriel Martinelli hands Arsenal a contract boost as winger reaffirms his desire to sign a new deal

Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli has reiterated his desire to stay in north London as contract talks continue with the Brazilian.

Martinelli, one of Arsenal’s standout players this season, has less than two years remaining on his current deal, though the club do have the option to extend it to 2026.

‘I’m very happy at Arsenal. I said it many times. This is my club. I love to be here, I love the city, the club, everything about Arsenal. I want to stay. I’m very happy,’ he said, before adding with a smile: ‘They just need a pen.’

The 21-year-old winger, who moved here from Brazil in 2019, admitted he feels added loyalty to Arsenal after they took a chance on him.

‘When I knew that Arsenal wanted to buy me… it was one of the happiest days of my life,’ he said.

As revealed by Sportsmail, Arsenal face having to more than double Martinelli’s current salary of around £70,000 a week. But the player holds no fears that ongoing talks could become a distraction.

‘I really don’t care. I want to stay. I want to score in the next game and do well and help my team win,’ he said.
