Jose Mourinho has spoken on the season he is having with AS Roma where they’re currently 6th on the log.

The Giallorossi are the defending champions of the Europa Conference League and are in the semi finals of the Europa League where they hold a first leg advantage over Bayer Leverkusen.

They could miss out on making the top four which guarantees automatic qualification for the Champions League but could yet still qualify through the Europa League should they go all the way to win the title.

Speaking after the goalless draw which all but put their top four aspirations to bed, the outspoken coach praised his lads and admitted they reached their limits.

The Portuguese has had to integrate players from Roma’s Primavera this season.

On the team’s mentality he told DAZN as revealed by RomaPress.

“Whether we have someone from the Primavera or a player from our women’s team playing, the team’s mentality doesn’t change.

“The qualities may change, but not the basic principles. I’m very proud of this match. We had several new players like Svilar, Missori, and Tahirovic starting yet it was still a good display.”

Mourinho then reiterated his stance on the top four aspirations in relation to having a squad good enough to go all the way.

“Our top four hopes? The supporters have to hear me: when we were second or third in the table, I kept saying we must take things one game at a time because we didn’t have the depth to go all the way in two competitions.”

“We never made any decisions one way or the other, we took things as they came one game at a time. I’ve been saying this for two or three months.”

Mourinho refused to put the season’s straw on the game against Bayer Leverkusen and told the press that his players reached their limits already.

“Does our season hinge on Thursday? We’ve had a fantastic campaign. We can analyse the result afterwards but we could win or lose (against Bayer Leverkusen), finish fourth or seventh in the league but it’s a season where the lads reached their limit.”
