The target of Kano state contigents to the 2022 National Sports Festival in Asaba is to improve on their performance on the medal standing to serve as a parting gift to the State Governor, Dr Umar Ganduje, who has committed so much for Sports development in the state.

This was the submission of the Kano State Sports Commission Chairman, Dr Ibrahim Galadima while speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the ongoing 21st National Sports Festival at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State.

Dr Galadima, expressed his satisfaction on the games so far especially the level of organisation, introduction of some new games, though some traditional games were earlier rejected which unsettled most of the athletes and commission members though were later incorporated.

According to the Sports Commission Chairman “despite all these ,we have been able to come here and have a good showing so far,we are still expecting more as we have some strong areas which we are looking forward to see positive results from our sportsmen and women”.

The former NFA Chairman further commended the Kano state athletes for maintaining top level of discipline, as they have not recorded any act of indiscipline by an Athlete, though it is because the officials are always with them to counsel them at every stage of the competition.

He said the state is always proud of them despite the inconveniences as he also commended Delta State for hosting the best games so far in the history of the games. That it is not easy to host about fourteen thousand athletes from all the federation.

Dr Galadima thereafter, stated that “they promised to host the games and here we can see everyone is here”.

He also appreciated the efforts of players and management of the Kano Pillars Basketball team though the could not achieve their aim, they can still do better with adequate preparations. On the reason Kano is prioritising individual events, the Sports commission Chairman, said its a strategy copied from other states, though they are not abandoning the team Sports as every state has its areas of strength of winning medals from.

He promised that Kano will surely improve her her previous games performance as it aims to achieve the feat recorded by the state in the 1989 games where the state came 2nd over all on the medals table.
