Manchester United announce pre-season friendly against Real Madrid at the NRG Stadium in Houston

Manchester United have announced a pre-season friendly against Real Madrid in Houston on their pre-season tour of America this summer.

The two European clubs will meet at the NRG Stadium July 26, 24 hours after a United team comprising younger players is in action against Wrexham in San Diego.

The other two tour games involving Erik ten Hag’s side are against Arsenal in the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 22 and Borussia Dortmund on July 30.

The last time United played Madrid in the US was in Michigan in 2014 in front of 109,318 fans – still the biggest crowd for a football match played in the country.

United’s football director John Murtough, said: ‘This is a huge game for our fans in the US, giving them a unique opportunity to witness first-hand one of the greatest fixtures in world football.

‘We last visited Houston in 2017 when we played Manchester City in front of a huge crowd, and I know this match will be just as popular.

‘Erik and his team are looking forward to spending time in the US and preparing for the new season by taking on first-class opponents such as Real Madrid.

‘Our players will relish the opportunity to test themselves against another top European side as they get ready for the 2023/24 campaign.’
