Mauricio Pochettino will jet in from Spain to complete the deal that will see him appointed Chelsea’s new head coach.

The Argentine will put pen to paper on what is believed to be a three-year contract to replace current interim boss Frank Lampard.

Pochettino is currently in Spain but will fly into London in the coming days to complete the formalities attached to his new job.

The 51-year-old negotiated his own contract and is waiting for the green light from his lawyer before signing the paperwork.

It is understood, the former Spurs boss will seek talks with Lampard before he formally takes on the role at the end of the season, though the managerial duo are yet to have held any planning discussions.

As reported by Mail Sport earlier last week, Pochettino would ideally like to sign a new goalkeeper, central midfielder and striker.

However, there is an understanding that the club’s priority will be to trim what is an oversized squad to ensure they keep the right side of FFP rules and to make the party more manageable for Pochettino.

Pochettino is set to make a range of recommendations to the club’s hierarchy and recruitment staff with regards to how he feels the club can best use the transfer window to ensure the squad is as strong as it can be – but will not make any specific demands.

He took a similar approach at Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain.

Pochettino is a huge fan of Mason Mount, who is out of contract at the end of next season. One of the recommendations he is likely to make is for the club to offer the England international a new deal to ensure he stays at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are already aware of some of Pochettino’s planning suggestions with co-director of recruitment and talent Joe Shields understood to be playing a key role in preparing for the South American’s arrival in terms of reshaping the squad.

Pochettino, ideally, wants any new recruits to have Premier League experience.
