Plateau State Athletes To Attend National Youth Games As Commissioner Of Sports Meets The Governor


The dream of young athletes on the Plateau to show the world of sports what they can offer might come true as the hardworking Commissioner of Youth and Sports on the Plateau, Victor Lapang will be meeting with the sports loving Governor of Plateau State, Simon Bako Lalong, Sunday evening.

Victor Lapang, who exclusively spoke to, when asked the readiness of the state athletes to link up with their counterparts from other States for the National Youth Games that will commence in Ilorin on Tuesday, he said: “The athletes should not loose hope as our Sports loving Governor is trying to create time for me to meet with him despite the Herculean task the state local government election has brought to his table.”

On his own part, the Director of Sports, Plateau State, Simon Moven, told that despite the financial challenges experienced in the State, Hon. Victor Lapang with the assistance of the Executive Governor of the State are working round the clock to make sure Plateau State athletes attend the 2021 Youth Games in Ilorin.

Some athletes who spoke to on condition of anonymity, called on the State Governor not to relent in his efforts in giving them that opportunity to do what always give them joy and avenue for them to fulfill their dreams in life.

They also appeal to the Chairmen of various Sports associations on the Plateau to also come to their aid even as they await government sponsorship.

Plateau State will participate in 20 events which includes:

  3. Cycling
  4. Boxing
  5. Chess
  6. Golf.
  7. Gymnastics
  8. Teakwondo
  9. Teniis
  10. Scrabble
  11. Table tennis
  12. Kungfu
  13. Para table tennis
  14. Karate
  15. Kokowa
  16. Judo
  17. Weightlifting
  18. Squash
  19. Wrestling
  20. Swimming.

The event will be officially flagged off from the 12th to the 19th of October, 2021 in Ilorin the Kwara State Capital.
