PLATEAU STATE READY FOR THE MAIDEN EDITION OF NATIONAL PARA GAMES

All is now set for the staging of first edition of the National Para Games, Abuja 2022. The Games will hold at the package A and B of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

Plateau State will unleash 74 athletes in 9 Sports to justle for medals with otther contestants from the 36 states and the FCT.

The Games which is strictly meant for the physically challenged, is the Nigerian version of the Para-olympic Games and it will run from the 9th-15th April, 2022.

Plateau State will depart Jos for Abuja on Friday, 8th April, 2022 with a contingent of 126 personnels comprising of 74 athletes, 15 Coaches, 9 Secretaries, 7 helpers, 16 ad hoc officials and 7 delegates.

Of the 15 sports earmarked for the games, Plateau state will however, compete in 9, they include, Para-athletics, Para-badminton, Deaf football, Para-teakwondo and Para-swimming.

Others are, Powerlifting, Para-table tennis, Para-karate and Para-soccer.

Earlier, on thursday 7th April, when addressing the contingent ahead of its departure, the acting Director of Sports, Mr Simon Moven, on behalf of the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, appreciated government for the release of funds. He urged the contingent to be good ambassadors of the state as he equally charged the athletes to seize this opportunity to do the state proud and strife to make the cut that will represent the nation at the international level.

Recalled that the Hon Minister for the Federal Ministry for Youths and Sports develolment, Sunday Dare,while inveiling plans for staging the maiden edition of the National para Games, said the games will serve as a pool where talents could be drawn to represent the nation at Para-olympics among other benefits.
