Tottenham’s Brazilian star Richarlison has confirmed that his latest injury scare suffered against Everton won’t rule him out of the upcoming Qatar World Cup.

The attacker was hooked during Spurs’ 2-0 win over Richarlison’s former club on Saturday and was visibly emotional as he left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on crutches.

His hopes of featuring in next month’s World Cup were immediately cast into doubt as the 25-year-old waited to discovery the extent of his calf injury.

Richarlison will miss Wednesday’s trip to Manchester United but could be back to face Bournemouth in the Premier League on October 29.

Tottenham’s £60million summer arrival revealed on Twitter that his injury was a ‘big scare’ but would rule him out of action for just two weeks, giving Brazil a big boost heading into the winter tournament.

Posting in Portuguese, Richarlison said: ‘Guys, thank God it was just a big scare! Two weeks and I’ll be back! Thank you for your messages and affection.’

Spurs boss Antonio Conte further backed his attacker to return before the international break as Tottenham look to put pressure on league leaders and rivals Arsenal.

‘It’s an injury but not so serious,’ said Conte. ‘I can confirm that the player is at no risk of not playing at the World Cup.

‘He has a problem in his calf. I think he needs a bit of time to recover and then to be fit. I hope for him to play other games with us before the World Cup but, for sure, the injury is not so serious.

‘The World Cup is the dream for every single player and for this reason I am happy for him. Also we’re talking about a player that when he goes to play he gives you everything.’

Richarlison has made 38 appearances for his nation since being handed his debut by current Brazil coach Tite in 2018. He has started the country’s last six matches and is expected to be a key figure in the Brazilian World Cup squad.
