Weightlifting To Have A Major Championship Next Year To Serve As Olympic Qualifier……….. Ibrahim Abdul

A visibly happy and satisfied leadership of the Weightlifting Federation of Nigeria, Dr. Ibrahim Abdul, has said that a major event that will serve as a qualifier to the Olympics for weightlifters will be organized in the first quarter of next year.

According to the President: “We will be having a national championship between February and March next year. And this major championship will also serve as Olympic qualifiers.”

Ibrahim Abdul also told Journalists the secret behind the sudden massive influx of States honouring the Weightlifting event of this year’s National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State. “Look out the turnout this time, it’s more impressive, compared to what it used to be; almost all the States are here, just two or three States are not here. And if you watch very well, the standard is now high and it’s not what it should to be, the stake is high. The athletes are sure that their welfare is our utmost priority and properly taken care of. On our own part we are very sincere with them. They trust us and they know fully well that whatever we promise them we give them as at when due and the support we also give to the States..”
